About Clucking Hill
I paint to slow down. To remember to breathe. To create small moments of beauty and peace in a busy, chaotic world. Watercolor has become both a creative outlet and a quiet kind of restoration - a reminder that imperfection can still be beautiful. My hope is that my artwork and classes give people a space to pause, create, and reconnect with a little wonder.
I’m drawn to rich teals, earthy olives, glowing golds, stained-glass geometry, and expressive organic shapes. Some pieces are whimsical, some reflective, and some simply exist to create a feeling — calm, wonder, warmth, nostalgia, or hope.
More than anything, I want both my art and my classes to feel welcoming. I believe creativity is for everyone, not just people who already think of themselves as “artists.” My workshops are designed to be relaxed, beginner-friendly spaces where people can gather, create, laugh, and leave with something meaningful they made with their own hands.
Why Clucking Hill? Well, our chicken coop sits at the bottom of a hill that I slide or fall down at least once a year. Instead of using my usual colorful vocabulary, I started referring to it as “that clucking hill” and the name stuck. It feels fitting somehow: a little whimsical, a little chaotic, deeply imperfect, yet full of life.
This little creative world is still growing, and I’m so glad you’re here.
The Shape of Waiting
The Shape of Waiting began in 2004 and remained unfinished for more than twenty years.
At the time, I thought I was simply creating a painting. Looking back, I realize I was also documenting a version of myself — one that was still waiting. Waiting for certainty, for courage, for peace, for permission to become fully visible in my own life.
In 2026, I finally returned to the piece and completed it without erasing the woman who first began it. The lighter sections remain untouched from those earlier years, while the deeper colors, gold, and layered geometry belong to the person I became on the other side of surviving, growing, grieving, healing, and beginning again.
For me, this painting became a reminder that unfinished things are not failures. Sometimes they are simply waiting for us to grow into them.
I hope it speaks to anyone who has ever felt stuck inside a life, a relationship, or a version of themselves that no longer fit. There is still life after waiting. There is still beauty after uncertainty. And sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is finally choose to finish the story.
This piece is the first work I’ve felt deeply compelled to preserve through professional scanning and reproduction. While the original remains in my home, prints are available for anyone who sees a part of their own story reflected here - and who may need a gentle reminder that there is still beauty waiting on the other side of uncertainty.
“Mine heart hath the eyes like those of a hawk.
When the time is ripe, love will find me - or perchance, I will find love.”
I came across those words years ago in Ankara, Turkey, written in a poem whose author I’ve never been able to trace. I carried them with me through some very difficult seasons, and over time they became woven into the meaning of this painting - a reminder that healing, hope, and love often arrive quietly, after long periods of waiting.

Woodland Hymn
Virginia Bluebells - part of the Virginia Native Series
Every spring, before the woods fully awaken, Virginia bluebells arrive in soft drifts of blue and violet, carpeting the forest floor like a quiet song. Their season is brief, but for those who happen upon them, the memory lingers long after the blooms have faded.
Inspired by woodland walks and the small wonders hidden beneath the trees, Woodland Hymn combines watercolor, geometric design, and touches of gold to capture the feeling of standing among a patch of bluebells on a cool spring morning.
Part of the Virginia Natives collection, this painting celebrates the beauty of native plants and the gentle magic found in ordinary places.
"The woods rarely hurry, yet they never miss their cue." — Alfred, Part-Time Naturalist, Full-Time Gentleman
All prints are produced using archival-quality materials and are carefully finished by hand with Clucking Hill's signature touches of metallic gold. Each piece is individually embellished, making every print uniquely its own. The Virginia Natives collection is an ever-growing series and is offered as open editions.
